This is Dougie and me. He is a lovely dog and keeps me sane, and is four years old in November 2025. I love photography, and he has been a subject of mine many times.

MORE ABOUT ME

I live near London Gatwick, which is three miles from me and opened in 1958, when I was born. I have always loved to take photographs, especially of aircraft.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN IN 1966

I started on holiday with my mum and dad when I was seven. I used my dad’s camera, a simple Kodak Box Brownie, to take photos. That was nearly 60 years ago. In those days, you had to really think, as you had just twelve photos per film. Certainly not like today, when you can take dozens at no cost to develop.

PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR PETS

My other love is pets. I have had dogs and cats throughout my life. It is so important to capture your current pet with a quality portrait. Do not just use your phone; it will never capture every hair. In this picture of my dog Poppy, you can see the great detail, and it was just the perfect time to capture her. I always have my camera in hand; she was lying there on the sofa. Many photos were taken at the time, and then you can choose the best one of the bunch. Poppy sadly passed away in May 2021. This photograph captures Poppy's soul, which is on our wall in the hall. Every day I say, “Hello, Poppy, love you.”
